Match Report
Sporting were sitting in second place in the division and showed their potential by creating several chances during the opening period but were denied by two excellent saves by Danny Barnes and twice by the woodwork. The Buckland defence, with Martin Tucker and new signing Kevan Parker both performing well kept the Barum strikers at bay during the latter stages of the half. Buckland themselves created two or three good opportunities but like their opponents could not find the net.
The second period was no more than ten minutes old as Sporting opened the scoring with a shot from close range. Within minutes a long ball out of defence was collected by the opposition centre-forward who neatly laid the ball square for a team-mate to fire home from 15yds. Fortunately for Buckland the linesman had spotted the striker was in an offside position and the goal was disallowed. Midway through the half the players thought the referee would stop the game following a melee on the edge of the Buckland penalty area, but instead allowed the game to continue. Simon Adams had the ball at his feet and as the Sporting players stopped awaiting the ref's whistle, took the ball though the static defence and slotted the ball past a bemused keeper to level the scores. The remainder of the game was concentrated in the Buckland half as Sporting pressed forward looking for the winning goal, but once again the woodwork and keeper came to Bucklands assistance before the final whistle.
