Match Report

The second game of the weekend found several of Buckland's players carrying knocks, aches & strains from the day before. The match began in a stuttering fashion for the home side as the players could not settle into the game. To make matters worse an awful mix up between the keeper & centre half gifted Clovelly an opening goal after only 15 minutes. For the next 20 minutes the home side lifted their game and dominated play with periods of excellent football topped by a thunderous free kick from Simon Leach to level the scores midway through the half. Clovelly hit back for the remaining minutes of the half and only a string of fine saves by the Buckland Keeper kept the scores level.

Buckland had to replace Simon Leach and Arran Brooks early in the second period, but teenager Daniel Vanstone and Martin Rawle added fresh legs to help Buckland hold the lion's share of possession. Buckland deserved to gain the advantage as Jake Lomax pounced midway through the half to smash home from close range. The tie looked to be heading in Bucklands favour until Clovelly struck with a goal 5 minutes from time to take the match into extra time.

Neither team could find the winning goal during the ensuing 30 minutes and the match went into a penalty shoot out. Both teams converted 4 of their allotted 5 attempts. Buckland's Kevan Parker, Ben Dooley, Ed Jonckheere and Simon Adams scoring with their spot kicks. The players from each team held their nerve and scored with the next penalty each. Youngster Daniel Vanstone striking his under the diving keeper. Buckland converted their 7th attempt, Martin Rawle just staying on his feet, but hitting the back of the net. Clovelly's 7th spot kick was subsequently saved by veteran keeper John Adams, to put Buckland into the semi-finals.

Man of the Match: Jake Lomax (midfield)
