Match Report

'Christmas Cheer' for Buckland as they recorded their first points of the season and moved off the bottom of the division. A first half goal by new boy Martin Rawle, heading home from Ed Jonckheere's good free kick and a solid performance by the defence set the home side on their way. The defence were marshalled superbly by captain Simon Adams, who was moved to centre half from his normal midfield position, to bolster a defence who had been lack lustre in previous weeks.

The second half did not begin well for Buckland as Northam equalised within the opening 4 minutes. A speculative shot from the edge of the box was pushed onto the bar by the keeper, rebounding back into play, the follow-up shot being blocked by a defender, the third shot being smashed into the net off the arm of the diving keeper. Buckland dug in and a fine team performance by the home side was capped by a winning goal midway through the half. Simon Odell, playing only his second game since returning from over 12 months out, due to a knee injury, scored from close range. Resolute defending by Buckland kept a determined 'Lions side at bay until the final whistle.
