Match Report
The penultimate game of the season was played on a hard, dry surface at Rock Park on which both teams did well to play decent football. The initial 20 minutes of the first half were evenly contested with both sides creating scoring chances. Buckland progressing well up to the penalty area, but the final shot, on most occasions, being poorly struck or wide of the target. Pilton also had their chances but Buckland’s keeper, Danny Barnes was always equal to the shots coming his way. The home side edged ahead midway through the half with a good shot from 12yds that flew low into the corner of the net, following fine interplay from two Pilton strikers.
The second half saw Buckland pushing forward at every opportunity and keeping the Pilton defence busy. Although the greater possession and scoring chances came the way of the Buckland players, the counter attacking threat was apparent as the home side came close to extending their lead on at least two occasions following quick breaks. Buckland continued to press for an equalising goal in a brave hope of keeping their promotion aspirations alive, but the final whistle arrived all to soon. Victory in the final match at Bradworthy in a weeks time was the only result that could now give Buckland a glimpse of success.
