Match Report
The visitors were going to be to tough nut to crack for Buckland as Torrington were currently two divisions above the home side and at the top of their division to boot. Torrington’s potent attack were kept at bay for a frustrating initial 45 minutes as Buckland’s players battled well. The home side’s midfield of Vinny Bott, Gary Montague & Ben Dooley were in good form and together with resolute defending from the back line including a string of fine saves from veteran keeper John Adams, contained the visitors enthusiasm. In fact Buckland almost had the audacity to take the lead in the fifth minute when Simon Adams burst through the back line only to see his shot brilliantly saved by the keeper.
Torrington came out in top gear in the second half and caught Buckland cold with a goal in the first minute. Ten minutes later the constant pressure told as the visitors sneaked a second, but only with the help of a defensive own goal. A third strike after 25 minutes put the game beyond Buckland, but the home players continued to soak up the continual pressure and acquitted themselves well against very good opponents. Martin Tucker in central defence and experienced keeper John Adams between the sticks showed good form in the latter stages to restrict Torrington to a final two goals in the dying minutes.
