Match Report

The home side looked mediocre during the opening stages as Mortehoe were quicker to the ball and appeared to control proceedings. In fact the visitors took a deserved lead after 20 minutes, with a good shot from 15yds. After the shock of conceding, the home side lifted their game especially with the energy of midfielder Gary Montague and the creative play of Simon Adams beginning to take hold in the centre of the pitch. Twice in the space of 10 minutes Simon Adams picked out Vinny Bott who scored with both chances to turn the match in Buckland’s favour. Vinny Bott’s purple patch continued in the lead up to half time, as he neatly lobbed the keeper from 18yds to complete his hat trick.

Buckland pushed forward once again at the start of the second period and during a 20 minute spell played periods of fine passing football and eventually added a fourth goal from Jake Lomax at the end of a five man move. Wing back Kevan Parker almost recorded his first goal for Buckland as he powered forward into the opposition penalty box, only to see his shot narrowly drift wide of the far post. Injuries began to take their toll, both Ben Dooley & Jake Lomax receiving knocks, forcing the home side to bring their substitutes into the action. Late in the game the visitors sneaked a second goal, but the game ended in a deserved victory for Buckland.

Man of the Match: Vinny Bott (striker)
