Match Report

The long trip to Lynton was almost postponed due to the non appearance of the appointed referee. Fortunately Lynton accepted the offer of John Adams to act as ref in order for the game to go ahead.

Buckland started the brighter of the two teams with Steve Bennett scoring from close range on 15 minutes following a good pass from Phil Short. Within minutes Simon Adams sprinted clear of a static defence to slot home goal number two. Lynton gradually stemmed Buckland’s dominance in the middle of the park and should have scored themselves on 25 minutes as a poor clearance from the keeper was quickly knocked back into an empty goalmouth. Fortunately, keeper Danny Barnes just managed to push the ball around the post. A couple of near misses by the home side during the latter stages of the half reminded Buckland that the game was not yet over.

The second period was dominated by Buckland who created several goal scoring opportunities during the early part of the half, but did not seem able to see off a stubborn Lynton side. The game was finally settled 15 minutes from time as Ed Jonckheere drove home a right foot shot from 15yds after good work from substitute Ben Carter.

Man of the Match: Phil Short (midfield)
