Match Report

The top of the table clash started lively with the strikers from both teams testing the opposition keepers during the opening ten minutes. Lynton had the first attempt on goal with the their centre forward drifting between two defenders only to have his shot well saved by the alert Danny Barnes. Minutes later Vinny Bott weaved through the Lynton defence and squared the ball to Jake Lomax, whose first time shot from 8yds, was hit directly at the keeper. The vast majority of the remainder of the half was played in the midfield areas as neither side could find a way past two resolute defences. Vinny Bott came closest to scoring for Buckland as another wriggling run ended with a shot that struck a post 10 minutes before the break.

The initial stages of the second period were once again evenly contested, but as the game entered the last 25 minutes the Buckland midfield began to hold the greater possession. The work rate of Gary Montague & Ben Dooley, together with the vision and passing of Simon Adams, began to create chances for the strikers. Vinny Bott yet again bustled into the penalty area, dribbling past three players only to see his shot rebound off a post. Simon Adams burst into the box following a four man passing move, but his shot narrowly drifted wide of the far post. With 15 minutes remaining a quick counter attack by the home side ended with a shot from distance striking the Buckland crossbar. The game appeared to be drifting towards a goalless stalemate until Lynton sneaked a goal out of nothing with 2 minutes remaining. For a few seconds Buckland’s players looked totally shell shocked, but to their great credit they attacked straight from the kick-off and eventually gained a corner in the final minute. Arran Brooks' corner kick found Ben Dooley on the near post, his pass across the six yard box was met by Simon Adams who almost broke the net with a thunderous equaliser. After the cheers and celebrations had finished, there was just time to restart the game before the referee blew the final whistle.
