Match Report

The view from the pitch at North Molton was striking in the winter sunshine, and so were the Buckland forwards in the opening 20 minutes. Both Vinny Bott and Simon Adams looked very lively in the opening exchanges. A good pass from midfield after 7 minutes put Simon Adams through on goal, but his attempted chip over the advancing goalkeeper hit the player on the chest. Fortunately for Buckland the rebound struck a nearby defender and the ball deflected into an empty net from 10yds. Minutes later another fine pass put Vinny Bott clear on goal, he smashed a strong shot into the net from 15yds to double Buckland’s advantage. Ten minutes later North Molton almost scored when a powerful header struck both posts before being collected by a relieved Buckland keeper. Midway through the half following prolonged Buckland pressure an attempted clearance by a North Molton defender struck a colleague on the back and rebounded directly into the path of Simon Adams who took a couple of paces before neatly slotting the ball into the corner of the net from 12yds.

The second half was dominated by Buckland with the home team goalkeeper being kept busy by a succession of shots from the visiting strikers. The home side did manage to hit the crossbar with a long distance shot late in the game, but overall the Buckland defence were rarely troubled.

Man of the Match: Ben Dooley (midfield)
