Match Report

The away trip to Chittlehampton meant a change in personnel for Buckland as four regular players were unavailable due to other commitments. Manager John Adams made two midweek signings, bringing Simon Leach and Ed Jonckheere back to the fold.

The opening 15 minutes were dominated by the visitors who neatly passed the ball around and looked particularly dangerous up front with Vinny Bott and Simon Leach looking sharp. Buckland pressure eventually paid off on 20 minutes, as a shot from Jake Lomax was back-heeled towards goal from 5yds by Simon Adams, only to hit the bemused keeper on the line. A desperate attempted clearance by a defender saw the ball strike the post and rebound into the net. Only minutes later Simon Leach collected a pass just outside the box, turned and shot low into the corner of the net to double Buckland’s lead. Ten minutes before the break Simon Leach once again controlled a pass just outside the box and smashed a powerful shot past the diving keeper.

The second half had only just started as the Buckland midfielders interchanged passes and Simon Adams put Vinny Bott through on goal. A quick interchange with Simon Leach saw Bott finally slot the ball under the advancing keeper. Within minutes a goalmouth melee ended with Simon Leach completing his hat-trick with a tap in from close range. The game at this point was completely controlled by Buckland’s midfield, with Simon Adams and Ben Dooley running the show. Any ball played forward always found the strikers in space and willing to power into the opposition box. The chances were being created at an alarming rate as the Buckland players toyed with the Chittle’ defence. Midway through the half a good cross from Vinny Bott found Simon Adams near the penalty spot. His first time shot found the back of the net through a crowd of players to bring the goal total to six. Substitutes Steve Bennett and Ed Jonckheere came into the action with 20 minutes remaining. An Arran Brooks corner 15 minutes from time was met by Vinny Bott who powered an unstoppable header into the net from 8yds. Late in the game Vinny Bott completed his hat-trick and recorded goal number eight for a rampant Buckland outfit, who now sit on top of the division for the first time this season.

Man of the Match: The whole team.
