Match Report

With Martin Tucker & Gary Montague playing together at the back, Buckland looked more compact and solid in defence than in their previous game. The normally high scoring Lynton strikers looked rather goal shy for the opening half as their opponents held the upper hand. With Simon Adams controlling proceedings in midfield and the defence holding the home strikers at bay, it was not long before Buckland were pushing forward and applying pressure on the Lynton defence. A 20yd chip shot from midfielder Dave Stanton midway through the half caught the keeper off his line, unfortunately the ball struck the under side of the crossbar, dropped onto the goal line and stuck in the mud. Several Buckland players raced goalwards, but were just beaten to the ball by a relieved goalkeeper. It was claimed that ball had in fact crossed the line, but the referee was to far away and disagreed. Minutes later the goalkeeper was almost punished following a poor goal kick. Simon Adams smashing the keepers kick directly back towards goal, only for the audacious shot to strike the crossbar. The half was generally stop – start as the referee seemed to constantly interrupt play by whistling for any hard challenge or any minor infringement.

Fifteen minutes into the second half Simon Adams powered down the wing and crossed into the goalmouth for the waiting Vinny Bott, who, under pressure from a defender, somehow managed to put his shot over the bar from 3yds. A Lynton counter attack following the clearance of a Buckland free kick on 23 minutes, ended with the ball in the back of the visitors net. A fine run and shot from a home striker putting his team ahead. With Buckland bringing their substitutes into the game and pressing for an equaliser it meant Lynton were finding space on the counter attack and eventually sealed victory with a second goal 2 minutes into added time.
