Match Report

Atrocious conditions made good football difficult in a strong wind and heavy rain. Buckland had to defend for virtually all of the opening half as the visitors held the upper hand with the strong wind at their backs. The visitors held firm until 5 minutes from the break, when veteran keeper John Adams could only parry a 30yd free kick, which allowed a High Bickington forward to prod home the rebound from close range.

Within the opening minute of the second half Buckland levelled as Simon Adams scored with a rare header from a corner kick. Midway through the half substitutes Joe Wolfe and Matt Horn were brought into the action as tired legs took their toll on a heavy pitch. The pace of Simon Adams and the energy of youngster Joe Wolfe, together with Vinny Bott and Phil Short working tirelessly in midfield, enabled Buckland to take total control of proceedings. Midfielder John Stanton subsequently amased his team mates by scoring twice in the latter stages, his first goals for nearly two years. A 30yd shot, which just missed the goal by inches, almost gave the player his hat-trick.

Man of the Match: John Stanton (midfield)
