Match Report

The youngsters from Torridgeside competed well during the opening stages, with periods of good passing football. Buckland soon began to push forward with strikers Vinny Bott and Simon Adams causing problems for the opposition defence with their pace. Simon Adams eventually opened the scoring after 20 minutes with a curled shot from 15yds, that was struck from a very narrow angle wide on the left. He should have added a second minutes later as a good run and cross from Vinny Bott found his colleague 10yds from goal. Unfortunately his first time shot flew high over the bar. Torridgeside continued to plug away for the remainder of the half but their forwards were rather wayward with their finishing.

The second period saw Buckland's strike force breaking on the counter-attack on a regular basis, but on most occasions were caught offside by an over zealous linesman. Midway through the half Simon Adams eventually broke free of the defence and linesman, to sprint clear 40yds from goal. He avoided a last ditch lunge from the keeper before slotting the ball into the net to double his teams score. Torridgeside scored a cracking goal direct from a free kick 25yds out with 4 minutes remaining. Their players were given hope of retrieving something from the game and pressed forward during the final minutes. The visitors were awarded a hat-full of free kicks around the edge of the box during almost 7 minutes of added time. To the credit of the Buckland defence they held firm against the odds.

Man of the Match: Vinny Bott & Simon Adams (strikers)
