Match Report

Another game with veteran keeper John Adams between the sticks, but with his team in fine form he was given an easy match and a clean sheet to boost.

The opening period was one-way traffic as Buckland easily held the upper hand. The first minute almost had Buckland on the score sheet as Vinny Bott’s run and pass found Simon Adams racing into the box. Unfortunately his sliced shot from 8yds edged wide of the far post. Minutes later the same players once again combined well in the visitor’s penalty box, but this time Vinny Bott headed just wide. With the home side stroking the ball around with confidence and creating many good scoring opportunities it was only a matter of time before the opening goal arrived. Midway through the half Simon Adams collected the ball wide on the wing, powered into the box and shot low past the keeper to put Buckland ahead. Ten minutes later following a good passing move Vinny Bott shot through a crowd of players to add a second. As half time approached the home side stretched their lead as the energetic Vinny Bott prodded home from close range for goal number three. With a little more composure, the neat incisive football played by the home side could have produced a hat full of goals during this initial period.

The second half started as the first had finished, with Buckland on the attack. Simon Adams added a fourth goal on 15 minutes, once again following a fine move between the Buckland midfield players. Midway through the half, central defender Gary Montague made a surging run into the Chittle’ half which took him almost to the edge of the penalty area before he was challenged by a defender and goalkeeper together. Somehow the ball rebounded between the visiting defenders and fell into the path of the Buckland player less than 18yds from goal. With the goal at his mercy and not a Chittle’ player in sight Gary calmly side footed the ball towards the empty net. He subsequently stood in disbelief as the ball tickled just wide of the far post. This must classify as the miss of the season.

With 20 minutes to play and the game virtually won, assistant manager Jon Stanton brought all three substitutes into the game to give the lads match practice. In fact it was almost a dream start for teenager Kyle Taylor. A superb pass from Simon Adams put the ball into the path of the youngster whose first time shot had to be well saved by the visiting keeper.

Man of the Match: Matt Horn (midfield)
