Match Report

The experience of playing on the Sports Ground under floodlights was the highlight of the evening for the Buckland players. The football was always going to be second best for the visitors as a weakened side struggled against a lively Bideford team, made up of a mix of youth and experience. The home side opened the scoring after only 8 minutes and doubled their tally 10 minutes later. Buckland subsequently managed to reach the half time break without their goal being breached further, but only thanks to 3 or 4 excellent saves from keeper Danny Barnes.

Buckland conceded a further two goals during the initial 20 minutes of the second period and although both substitutes were brought into the action for the final 25 minutes the fast pace and neat passing of the home side kept Buckland on the back foot for the remainder of the game. Once again it was only fine goalkeeping by Danny Barnes that kept Bideford at bay, but even he could not prevent the home side from scoring two late goals, one of which being a penalty in the last minute.

Man of the Match: Danny Barnes (goalkeeper)
