Match Report
The local derby with Putford was yet another match in which no official referee was allocated. John Adams offered to take the whistle, which meant with regular keeper Danny Barnes unavailable the gloves were donned by midfielder Gary Montague. The stand-in keeper was not troubled during the early exchanges as Buckland held the greater possession. The chances were being created by the home side but Putford’s rearguard held firm for the opening 20 minutes. A penalty awarded for a trip was taken by Simon Leach, but his spot kick was easily saved by the aging Jimmy Walters in the Putford goal. Five minutes later Buckland made the break through as Danny Woolf smashed the ball into the net from 15yds. Within minutes Vinny Bott headed past the stranded keeper to double Buckland’s lead. Simon Adams almost recorded number three minutes later as his audacious shot from near the touch line struck the crossbar with the keeper stranded. The visitors looked to have pulled a goal back six minutes later, but the linesman had seen a player in an offside position and the goal was disallowed. During the final minutes of the half Simon Leach pounced on the ball after it was spilled by the keeper and drilled a low shot into the net from 8yds.
The second period was dominated by Buckland with the visitors being kept on the back foot for long periods. Simon Leach added goal number four after 10 minutes before Simon Adams weighed in with two well taken goals midway through the half. A second penalty award on 30 minutes, for another trip, was taken by Vinny Bott. This time the ball ended in the back of the net. Simon Adams completed his personal hat trick 10 minutes from time as the home ran out easy winners. The game was in the final minute as Simon Leach stumbled just as he was about to shoot and badly tore his ankle ligaments, which could keep him sidelined for several weeks.
