Match Report
For the second week running, Buckland's Manager John Adams, held his head in disbelief as his team once again dipped out by a single goal against one of the divisions top teams.
Simon Leach gave Buckland a dream start as he smashed a third minute shot into the roof of the net from 15yds, following good work from team-mate Simon Adams. Although the home side dominated for the next 20 minutes the elusive second goal did not arrive. Torrington were awarded a penalty after half an hour for a trip, as a defender clumsily tapped the ankle of a visiting striker as he took the ball away from the goal. Within 5 minutes of the converted spot kick the home side found themselves behind as the visitors scored from close range, although the linesman missed a clear offside as he appeared to be distracted by a spectator at the crucial moment. Five minutes before the break Buckland leveled following a goal mouth scramble. The ball pinged around in the box until Simon Adams hit a shot that deflected off the shoulder of Jake Lomax as he attempted to duck under his colleague’s goal-bound drive.
Jake Lomax had to be replaced by Steve Bennett after 15 minutes of the second period due to injury. The visitors subsequently edged ahead midway through the second half as a good shot from 25yds rifled into the top of the Buckland net. Ten minutes later Buckland had the opportunity to level after the award of a penalty for handball. The keeper saved well from Simon Adams' spot kick. Buckland held the greater possession during the final 20 minutes with Simon Adams tormenting the Torrie defence and Simon Leach cracking two great shots against the crossbar. In saying this, the home side had to thank keeper Danny Barnes for a couple of fine saves late in the match as Torrie attempted to hit back on the counter attack.
