Match Report
The game was evenly contested during the opening 25 minutes with both teams striking shots from long range which failed to trouble either keeper. A back pass by a Buckland defender was badly sliced by the keeper has he attempted to knock the ball clear. The ball travelled only a couple of paces sideways, which gave a Mortehoe striker an easy tap-in from 6yds. Within 10 minutes Buckland were level as Ed Jonckheere chased down an attempted clearance by a defender and laid the ball into the path of Danny Woolf who banged a shot into the net from 10yds.
Midfielder Mark Palmer was replaced by John Stanton for the start of the second period. The half was only 5 minutes old as Simon Leach neatly took the ball past the last defender and scored from 12yds to put the home side ahead. He subsequently had to leave the pitch for several minutes for treatment to an ankle injury. Ten minutes later Danny Woolf hit goal number three from close range, following an excellent run and cross from Ed Jonckheere. With midfielder Simon Adams controlling proceedings in the middle of the park it was not long before Buckland increased their lead as a recovered Simon Leach hit goal number four on 25 minutes. Buckland subsequently defended well with centre half Graham Moore marshalling his colleagues superbly until 6 minutes from time when, following a corner, Mortehoe struck from close range to narrow the gap. A superb late save from Buckland’s Danny Barnes kept the visitors at bay.
