Match Report
With several players unavailable, Buckland travelled to senior division Shammie with only one substitute, who was carrying an injury and a team containing two other players also carrying injuries. Not the best start for a cup quarter final.
Shamwickshire opened the scoring from the penalty spot after only 5 minutes and added a second goal on 12 minutes as the Buckland side struggled to contain their opponents. A third goal midway through the half seemed to indicate that the home side were about to run riot, but Buckland battled on and managed to reach the break with no further score.
With the wind at their backs during the second period Shammie should have dominated proceedings, but it was Buckland who took the game to their opponents. The home side appeared rattled by the competitive nature of Buckland’s midfield players and midway through the half conceded a penalty for a trip on Matt Cann. Unfortunately for Buckland the resulting spot kick, taken by Steve Bennett was well saved by the Shammie keeper. Ten minutes later the keeper gave away another spot kick as he collided with Vinny Bott. This time up-stepped Simon Adams, but his low shot flew wide of the goal. The visitors continued to press and with ten minutes to play, substitute Jake Lomax headed home from close range to put Buckland on the score-sheet. Only a couple of good saves by the Shammie keeper late in the day from Kevan Parker and Vinny Bott, kept a plucky Buckland side at bay.
