Match Report

The opening half was dominated by Buckland, with the home side only occasionally breaking out of their own half. Although the visitors held the greater possession the strikers could not find a way past a resolute Equalisers rear guard. Any shots that were on target, the keeper dealt with easily.

It took until 15 minutes into the second period before Buckland managed to break the deadlock. Leon Appleton, playing his first full game for the Club, collected the ball inside the penalty area, turned quickly and shot across the face of the goal from 12yds. The keeper could only parry the shot, but Ed Jonckheere followed in to prod the ball over the line from close range. With their ‘tails up’ Buckland pressed forward and doubled their tally 10 minutes later as Matt Cann bundled the ball over the line following a goalmouth scramble. The home side had to attack in order to try and save the game, but came up against Buckland’s keeper, Danny Barnes who was once again in good form. The keeper brilliantly saving two goal bound shots, as Equalisers threw players forward. Buckland’s defence, well marshalled by Kevan Parker, held firm until 15 minutes from time, when the home side scored from a corner kick. With midfield dynamo, Vinny Bott retiring through injury, Buckland had to cling on to their slender advantage as the home side pressed hard for an equaliser.

Man of the Match: Kevan Parker (defender)
