Match Report

The home side were ahead within 4 minutes of this 3rd round tie. A sliced clearance by a Buckland defender fell invitingly for the Shebbear centre forward who made no mistake from 10yds. The Buckland defence found themselves under increasing pressure as the lively Shebbear strikers found gaps in the back line and on 20 minutes added to their tally with a neat move and good finish from close range. Buckland’s luck ran out completely minutes later as a well hit Shebbear free kick from 25yds, was tipped onto the post by the keeper, only for the rebound to hit the unfortunate goalkeeper on the back of the head and deflect into the net. Unrest and decent within the team almost caused a problem late in the half, but luckily the half time break arrived and the tension receded.

After only 10 minutes of the second half the home side added a fourth goal following a goalmouth scramble. Once again the keeper was unlucky as the initial shot was well saved only for the spin on the ball to carry the shot into the net. Buckland made three substitutions during the later stages and slowly began to create scoring opportunities. A couple of such chances during the final 15 minutes had to be well saved by the home team goalkeeper. The final minutes were an end to end encounter, but it was left to Buckland’s keeper, Danny Barnes, to have the last word. The keeper superbly saved a penalty kick with 10 minutes to play and subsequently pulled off two further outstanding saves to deny the Shebbear strikers.

Man of the Match: Danny Barnes (goalkeeper)
