Match Report

The home side, with the wind at their backs in the first half, held the greater possession and kept Putford pegged back in their own half for long periods. With 20 minutes played the ball was being neatly passed around within the Putford penalty area and eventually fell to Steve Bennett who calmly knocked the ball into the net from close range, to give the home side the lead. Buckland’s keeper was no more than a spectator for most of the opening period as his team mates continued to press for the important second goal. Although Buckland continued to push forward for the remainder of the half the visitors held firm to reach the break only the single goal in arrears.

The second period was more evenly contested as the visitors attempted to utilise the strong wind. With 15 minutes of the half elapsed a goalmouth scramble resulted in Putford grabbing an equalising goal. The remainder of the game was an end to end affair with probably the better scoring chances falling to the Buckland strikers. During the final 15 minutes, Ed Jonckheere struck a firm shot high over the bar, followed shortly by a strong header from Vinny Bott, that had to be cleared off the line and minutes later a glancing header from Gary Tanton just missed the far post.

Man of the Match: Matt Cann (midfield)
