Match Report

Buckland were awarded a penalty for handball after only 9 minutes play. Full back Steve Bennett calmly planted the resulting spot kick into the net, to put the home side ahead. The lead did not last long; a defensive error gave the High Bickington centre forward the opportunity to level the scores, but only at the second attempt. Keeper Danny Barnes saving the initial shot, but the second attempt found the net past at least three defenders. Buckland pressed hard for the next 15 minutes and were awarded with a goal after 25 minutes as Ed Jonckheere hit a low ball across the goalmouth only for a defender to deflect the ball into his own net. Buckland’s lead lasted no more than 5 minutes as High Bickington once again levelled the scores. Their striker shrugged off the challenge of two defenders to lob the advancing keeper from 20yds. Five minutes before the break Simon Adams almost put Buckland ahead as his thunderous shot from 25yds was just tipped onto the crossbar by the keeper.

Ten minutes into the second period Ed Jonckheere headed the ball over the keeper from 10yds to the amazement of his team mates. Ed never scores with his head. This spurred Buckland into life. Within the next 20 minutes the home strikers hit a purple patch with Jake Lomax scoring his first ever hat trick and Simon Adams weighing in with a goal to demolish any hopes the opposition had of a victory. A late strike from High Bickington, a super shot into the top corner from 20yds, was only a consolation goal.

Man of the Match: Jake Lomax (striker)
