Match Report
The glorious sunny afternoon seemed to make the home side think of lazy summer days as a lack luster, error riddled opening 20 minutes should have seen Lovacott ahead but for poor finishing. Slowly Buckland began to find their feet and with the lively Jake Lomax chasing every ball up front, the Lovacott defence were eventually put under pressure. A ten minute period during the middle of the half saw Buckland create several good chances with the two strikers, both going close. Following a succession of corners, Simon Adams headed home from close range, although the Lovacott players thought that he had handled the ball. The goal was awarded, with Buckland going on to hold the greater possession during the remainder of the period.
The second half began well for the home side with a couple of scoring opportunities being created in the opening 10 minutes. Against the run of play Lovacott broke into the Buckland half, with their centre-forward chasing a long ball. Quick feet took the striker past the last Buckland defender and around the goalkeeper to knock the ball into the net and bring the visitors level. Minutes later a free kick, hit quickly into the Buckland penalty area, saw at least 3 Lovacott players run behind the home defence with the defenders standing and watching. A superb shot on the turn from a Lovacott striker, saw the ball flash into the net from 10yds. Buckland were subsequently forced to replace an injured Jake Lomax and 10 minutes later brought the remaining two substitutes into the action in an attempt to level the match. The latter period of the match became bad tempered as both sets of midfield players challenged hard for every ball, with a host of free kicks being conceded. Buckland held the greater possession and pressed hard, with Simon Adams getting behind the Lovacott defence at every opportunity. The game was entering the final 5 minutes as Phil Short crossed into the box. The pass reached Leon Appleton who mis-controlled with the ball hitting his arm before his shot slipped under the keeper and into the net. The referee disallowed the goal after consulting with the linesman. In the final minute Simon Adams took the ball down the wing, avoided the last defender and from a narrow angle smashed the ball high into the net to level the scores, much to the delight of his colleagues.
