Match Report

The final home game of the season was a closely contested encounter in the opening half, with neither team producing a clear goal scoring opportunity. Although Buckland almost gifted the visitors a goal after 15 minutes when an under hit back pass was intercepted by a Woolsery striker who then failed to hit the target from 8yds. The greater possession was held by Buckland during the latter part of the first half, but the players seemed unwilling the shoot when the chance arose.

The second period began a fine style as within 5 minutes a shot from 18yds by midfielder Darren Moore flew beyond the reach of the Woolsery keeper, for the opening goal. In fact this was the player’s first goal of the season, much to his delight. Only minutes later a shot from 15yds from Vinny Bott once again flew into the net to double Buckland’s lead. Midway through the half, Vinny Bott stuck again with a shot from 30yds that somehow evaded the dive of the keeper to nestle in the far corner of the net. Buckland were in total control at this point and looked likely to score on every attack. Vinny Bott was most unfortunate not to record his first ever hat-trick when his shot from 25yds hit the crossbar, dropped onto the line and bounced back into play. A rare excursion into the Woolsery half by defender Gary Montague ended with the player smashing an angled shot past a despondent visiting keeper for goal number four. Late in the game a good passing move from the home team gave Simon Adams the opportunity to score from close range, but he unselfishly laid the ball into the path of striker Jake Lomax who had the easiest of opportunities to score from 6yds. The game was entering the final couple of minutes as a Woolsery striker avoided the offside trap and neatly flicked the ball into the net from 10yds past a static keeper to spoil Buckland’s clean sheet.

Man of the Match: Vincent Bott (midfield)
