Match Report

Another midweek game and a shortage of fit players meant a rare starting position between the sticks for Manager, John Adams. The Anchor team were sitting in third place in the division and a win would lift them into second place. Right from the start the home side pushed players forward which gave the veteran keeper and his defence plenty of action during the opening 20 minutes. One fine diving save showed his team mates that the old bones could still move which seemed to give the team an added impetus. Minutes later Ed Jonckheere lifted the ball over the advancing Anchor keeper and Simon O’Dell knocked the pass into the net, at the second attempt, to put Buckland ahead. Anchor continued to attack and within 10 minutes were level as their centre forward broke through the defence and neatly prodded the ball under the keeper.

The second half was only 4 minutes old as Anchor doubled their goal tally. A firm header that deflected into the goal off the crossbar following a corner kick. Ten minutes later a cross into the Buckland penalty area was spectacularly turned into his own net by defender Kevan Parker, who sliced an attempted clearance into the top corner of the goal. Buckland tried in vain to record a second goal, with shots from substitute Vinny Bott and Ed Jonckheere narrowly missing the target late in the game. Anchor had the final say, as a speculative shot from 25yds bounced awkwardly in front of the Buckland keeper who mishandled, with the ball dropping over the line to give the home side a fourth goal.

Man of the Match: Matt Cann (defender)
