Match Report

Buckland started brightly on a glorious sunny afternoon, with a couple of well worked moves ending with shots that were just off target. Midway through the half the home side edged in front as Phil Short turned well and shot into the corner of the net following a good cross from Ed Jonckheere. Torrington’s powerful front line caused the Buckland defence a few anxious moments as the half progressed, but in-form keeper, Danny Barnes was always on hand to repel the final shot. A penalty kick awarded for a trip on Matt Cann, with 3 minutes of the first half remaining gave Buckland the opportunity to double their lead. Steve Bennetts spot kick struck the crossbar, landed almost a metre over the line and bounced out into the arms of the bemused keeper. To the disbelief of the home team and supporters alike, neither the referee nor the linesman awarded the goal.

Torrington started the second half the stronger and equalised following a powerful run and firm shot after 15 minutes. Buckland brought all three substitutes into the game for the final 20 minutes, but it was one of those games where the match appeared destined to end all square. With only minutes remaining a collision involving Buckland’s keeper and an opposition striker left the home keeper with a deep cut on the knee.

Man of the Match: Steve Bennett (midfield)
