Match Report
The weather for the first time in weeks was suitable for a game of football – cool and wet. The conditions seemed to suit the Buckland players, as the game began well with good periods of neat passing football. The early possession was held by the visitors with the Lovacott defence having to deal with several decent crosses and shots from a lively Buckland attack. Midway through the half following a succession of corner kicks, Vinny Bott latched onto a half cleared ball and smashed a shot into the net from close range to put Buckland ahead.
The second period began with Lovacott on the attack, but Buckland soon took hold of the game with the midfield and strikers passing the ball with ease and keeping the opposition defence on the back foot. After 20 minutes Simon Adams broke clear on the wing and hit a high curling cross into the Lovacott goalmouth. The wind assisted strike swung over the outstretched arms of the keeper and dropped into the net to double Buckland’s advantage. The score should have been increased ten minutes later as Simon Adams muscled his way past the last defender and with the keeper rooted to his line knocked the ball just wide of the post from 8yds. A late goal by Lovacott, with only 3 minutes remaining following a defensive mix-up, only came as a consolation for the home side.
