Match Report

Buckland controlled the opening half against an undefeated South Molton team. A ball 10yds from the South Molton corner flag should have been cleared by a defender, but the persistence of Simon Adams won him the ball. The player drove into the penalty box and squared the ball to Jake Lomax who smashed a shot into the net from 8yds. Buckland continued to hold the greater possession for the remainder of the opening half. The only scare was a poor goal kick from stand-in keeper Darren Moore that only reached the foot of the South Molton centre forward, but the keeper redeemed himself with a fine save from the resulting shot.

South Molton began the brighter in the second period and levelled the scores after 15 minutes as their striker out ran the Buckland defence and neatly slotted the ball under the advancing keeper. The game remained evenly balanced for the following 15 minutes with Matt Cann marshalling his defence to hold a lively Molton forward line at bay. Buckland should then have increased their lead. Simon Adams once again reached the by-line, squared the ball to Ed Jonckheere whose shot from 8yds struck the crossbar. A goal mouth melee late in the game almost resulted in Buckland scoring again, but for a brave save by the keeper. With the game into the fourth minute of added time a long ball up field was contested by Bucklands centre half and a 'Molton striker. As the players ran into the penalty box the defender just reached the ball only for the clearance to deflect off the shin of the adjacent striker and drop over the keeper into the net.

Man of the Match: Matt Cann (defender)
