Match Report

The home side opened the scoring after only 8 minutes, as a lofted pass over the Buckland rearguard was not dealt with by the defence. This allowed the ‘Park’ winger to run through on goal and neatly place his shot under the keeper from 8yds. After this early set back, Buckland subsequently held their opponents for the remainder of the first half and even created a couple of scoring chances themselves. Both John Stanton and Simon O’Dell struck shots that unfortunately did not trouble the opposition goalkeeper. Although the home side held the greater possession Bucklands defence never looked under to much pressure leading up to the break.

Within ten minutes of the second period commencing Park doubled their lead as a speculative shot from 25yds drifted over the out stretched hands of the keeper and dropped into the net. Buckland battled bravely for the next 20 minutes, but could not find a way through a stubborn home defensive line-up. A foul conceded by Buckland just outside their own penalty area resulted in goal number three for the home side. The well struck free-kick rifled into the top corner of the net from 20yds. The game ended in a bad light as a player from each team was sent-off by the referee following a brawl involving several players. This followed a bad tackle on a Buckland player that went un-punished by the referee and a team-mate over reacted to the incident by deliberately kicking an opponent.

Man of the Match: Matt Cann (midfield)
