Match Report
Buckland's good form continued into the New Year with a well deserved point against Shebbear.
The first half started well for the home side with Simon Adams scoring after 15 minutes with a sprint and shot under the advancing keeper, following a fine pass from Ed Jonckheere. Five minutes later the same player again out ran the visiting defence and shot just inches wide. Following a Shebbear free kick on the edge of the Buckland penalty area that was twice blocked by the defensive wall, a long clearance up field reached Simon Adams who was surrounded by four defenders. A burst of speed enabled him to evade the defenders before shooting just wide. Shebbear equalised midway through the half with virtually their only shot of note in the opening half following a defensive mistake by the home side.
The second half was an evenly contested encounter that should have been settled in Buckland's favour after 20 minutes when Simon Adams found himself with the goal at his mercy following a mistake by the keeper, but to everyone's astonishment he shot over the bar from less than 6yds. Shebbear had a player sent off with 15 minutes to play but pressed hard for the winner with a depleted line-up. In fact with 3 minutes to play the Buckland centre half ducked under a long clearance expecting his keeper to be right behind him. The keeper had stayed on his line which allowed a Shebbear striker to nip in behind the defence, but luckily for the home side his shot drifted inches wide of the goal.
